Today, we are fortunate to have medical screenings which can allow us to take remedial action, before a problem becomes major. Read on to know more about medical screening tests that you should take from time as a preventive measure against some of these major illnesses that are common to women.
Thyroid is one of your body’s most important glands. When your thyroid doesn’t work properly, it can cause you to feel nervous or tired; make your muscles weak; cause weight gain or loss; impair your memory; and affect your menstrual flow. Women are five to eight times more likely to have thyroid dysfunction than men and quite often overlook the symptoms or mistake them as symptoms of other conditions.
Medical Test: A thyroid test once in 6 months is good way to a keep a check on your thyroid gland.
A condition where bones become weak and are likely to break.
Medical Test: After the age of 40, all women should get a DEXA scan (Dual X-ray Absorptiometry) to measure bone health.
Elevated levels of cholesterol increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Hence it is important to track your cholesterol levels especially if you have a family history of heart disease.
Medical Test: Get your cholesterol tested once every 6 months.
Haemoglobin is a protein contained in red blood cells which carries oxygen. A low Haemoglobin or “blood count” is known as anaemia and it can disrupt the normal functioning of your body.
Medical Test: A complete blood count (CBC) test will detect the same. You can do this test once every 6 months
Cervical cancer is one of the most prevalent form of cancer in women. The chances of survival are higher if it’s detected early.
Medical Test: Get a PAP smear test every year after the age of 25 years. Its helps trace any changes in the cervix.
Breast cancer is another common form of cancer in women and can be cured if detected earlier
Medical Test: Have a mammogram test done every 2 years after the age of 40.
Regular dental check-up can help detect early signs of decay and take preventive steps.
Medical Check-up: Get a dental check- up once every 6 months.
